Of this logos, which holds forever, people prove uncomprehending, both before they have heard it and once they have heard it. For although all things come about in accordance with this logos, they are like the inexperienced when they experience such words and deeds as I set forth.
Listening not to me but to the logos, it is wise to agree that all things are one.
The way up and the way down are one and the same. The road is the same road.
This cosmos, the same for all, none of the gods nor of humans has made, but it was always and is and shall be: an ever-living fire, kindling in measures and going out in measures.
Everything flows and nothing abides; everything gives way and nothing stays fixed. You cannot step twice into the same river, for other waters are continually flowing on.
