Zeno of Citium·Greek·fragmentary

About this text

Zeno's original writings are lost. His teachings survive through students and commentators (Diogenes Laertius, Cicero, Seneca) who preserved the foundations of Stoic philosophy.

Man conquers the world by conquering himself.

We have two ears and one mouth, so we should listen more than we say.

The goal of life is living in agreement with nature.

Wellbeing is attained by little and little, and nevertheless is no little thing itself.

No evil is honourable; but death is honourable; therefore death is not evil.

The reason why we have two ears and only one mouth is that we may listen the more and talk the less.

Happiness is a good flow of life.
