That women too should study philosophy I hold for the following reason. God gave women the same power of reason as men. Women have the same senses as men: sight, hearing, smell, and the rest. Likewise they have the same parts of the body.
Moreover, it is not men alone who possess an eagerness and a natural inclination toward virtue, but women also. Women are pleased no less than men by noble and just deeds, and reject what is base.
Since that is so, why should it be appropriate for men to seek out and examine how they might live well, but not for women?
